Welcome to my Dia de los Muertos themed party. Dia de los Muertos means Day of the Dead in spanish and it is celebrated on November 1 and November 2. It's celebrated around the world and most notably in Mexico. It is believed that spirits of our loved ones who have passed on visit during these two days of celebration. The day is not meant to be sad or a day of mourning, but instead a celebration of life and a day to remember happy times with those that have passed on.
On Day of the Dead loved ones go to the cemetery to decorate their tombstones and/or they create altars at home. The table I made is a large altar dedicated to family members and friends that died. Altars typically consist of sugar skulls, candles, papel picado, photos of loved ones, objects that represent them or that belonged to them, marigolds, favorite foods and beverages, fresh fruit, water, and salt, among other things that I made sure I added.

For the centerpiece I made a large Sugar Skull Pinata. Want to make your very own? I made a video showing how to make one.
We filled the table with handpainted skulls and marigolds which are known to the the flower of the dead. It is said that on Dia de los Muertos if you leave a trail of marigolds from the grave to your home the spirit of a loved one will follow the trail home.
Grab yourself a sweet treat like our sweet cupcakes de muertos and homemade sugar skull cookies.
We have a little gift for you. Don't forget to grab your skeleton bag to get your very own sugar skull nutcracker and sugar skull cookies.
As we approach the night, let's light all the candles on the table.
As night arrives and the candles burn bright we feel the spirits of loved ones near by. Thank you for stopping by our party.
I hope you enjoyed our little time together.
Feliz Dia de los Muertos!!
