Making Sugar Skull Cookies

Day of the Dead is this weekend and in honor of Day of the Dead I made some sweet treats, including these sugar skull cookies.  I received these cookie cutter/stamps from my sister during the holidays and I have been waiting excitedly to use them and this was the perfect week to. If you love skulls as much as I do you will want to get your hands on these. You can purchase here

The package comes with 4 different classic sugar skull stamps. I made these cookies using my peanut butter cookie recipe. Follow this recipe to make the dough.

Roll out the dough and press the cookie cutter down, face up.

Next, put the cookie cutter face down aligned with the cut you made, as shown above.

After you take them out of the oven, place them on a cookie rack to cool.

These cookies are meant to be decorated. The carvings make it easy to put icing on them, but I think they look great without the icing.

The cookie cutter is very easy to use. One tip I have for you is to make sure the dough is firm and cold which really helps the cookie keep its shape.

Enjoy!
